ALBANY — New U.S. Census figures show the median age in New York state last year was 38.1, unchanged from 2011 and a bit higher than the national median.

Data released shows the nation’s median age was 37.4 years in 2012.

Of the 19.6 million people living in New York state, 4.3 million were under 18 years of age.

There were about 414,000 New York state residents who are 85 years old or older, about two thirds of them are women.
