State Wants CPR Taught in School

A bill introduced in Albany would require high school students to be trained in the hands-only version of CPR.

The training would not require certification, but give students some skills to possibly save lives.

The American Heart Association is behind the proposal. They say the program would not be expensive and partnerships can be formed between the schools and emergency services providers.

Similar measures have been proposed in the legislature for the last five years. Schools say they want to be careful the idea does not become another unfunded mandate from the state.
