Chenango County Sheriff Investigates Three-Car Crash in North Norwich

The Chenango County sheriff’s office investigated a motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles Wednesday.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on State Route 12 just north of Tracy Road in the town of North Norwich. A pickup truck operated by Ralph Marshall, 51, of Georgetown, was southbound and crossed into the center line into the path of a logging tractor trailer operated by Gregory Kays, 44, of Callicoon.

Marshall’s vehicle then struck another northbound pickup truck being operated by Robert Austin, 70, of Sherburne.

Marshall’s vehicle came to rest on the northbound shoulder of Route 12. Austin’s vehicle came to rest in a cornfield. Marshall had to be extricated from his vehicle and was flown to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City with serious leg and arm injuries.

Austin, Kays and a passenger in the logging truck were not injured. The investigation into the accident is continuing and charges are pending.
