Winter storm Nemo is expected to drop over a foot of snow across upstate New York over the next 24 hours. Make sure you are up to date on the latest forecasts and closings and be sure to stay safe if you are forced to travel.

The New York State Police encourage motorists to exercise due care over the next few days. The temperature will be hovering in the single digits in addition to somewhat windy conditions, which will result in subzero wind chill temperatures. Use your best judgment to determine if driving is prudent and also be prepared in case you become stranded.

With some of the coldest days of the winter upon our region, frostbite is real concern for area residents. Frostbite can be extremely dangerous and happens when the skin and tissue underneath freezes. Symptoms include numbness and tingling. The skin may also turn pale and hard. Frostbite typically affects smaller, more exposed areas of your body.

NYSEG emergency planners are closely monitoring the winter storm expected to hit at least part of the state on Wednesday that will last through Thursday afternoon. Strong winds and related tree damage could result in power interruptions. This storm could affect some of the same customers who lost power as a result of destructive winds late last week.

At first, Hurricane Sandy was forecast to head out into the Atlantic Ocean. Then, it was a 50-50 shot of coming ashore in the northeast. Now, forecasters say it's imminent.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued its forecast for temperature and precipitation across the country for December, January and February.

UPDATE 2:05PM: National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown in Metropolitan New York.  A tornado swept through Breezy Point in Queens, N.Y about an hour ago.  Power is out there and damage is being assessed.  A TORNADO WATCH has just been issued for Otsego and Delaware Counties until 10:00PM.  At 2:05PM gusty winds are being reported thr0ughout our listening area.
