My daughter, Tara works for Price Chopper and she wears a face shield at work. By the way, did you see that Dr. Fauci has said that we should consider wearing a face shield or goggles as well as a mask to help with the fight against the coronavirus? That's a story for another day.

If you've had to wear a mask for an extended period of time, then you may be dealing with "maskne." You are wearing a mask while it's hot and humid out. Your oily skin rubbing against the mask with bacteria making a home there.

BAM! Mask related acne. If you're looking to prevent it, here's a couple of suggestions:

Wear no make-up on the lower half of your face. No one can see what's under there anyway, so why worry about it.

Wear a cotton mask. You should wash it daily or wear a surgical mask that shouldn't be reused the next day.

Use a gentle moisturizer. It won't clog your pores, and it wouldn't hurt to use a non-soap cleanser.

If you get maskne, then get over-the-counter products that have a small percentage of benzoyl peroxide or a topical antibiotic. In the grand scheme of things, remember this: It comes down to acne or COVID.
