An Oneonta woman returning to her Main Street apartment on Independence Day got a surprise when she found two men looking through her purse. According to Oneonta Police,  the victim tried to detain the two men identified as Spencer Robert McCarthy, of Shirley, and Jeffrey Steven Votee, of Morris, but they broke free and escaped.

Investigators say one suspect was arrested at the Red Apple at 65 Chestnut Street, and the other was arrested Wednesday at his home. McCarthy is held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property while Votee posted his $5,000 bail.
