NEW BERLIN, NY (January 18, 2017) --The Preferred Foundation, a corporate giving entity of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, is awarding two college scholarships to local area students. The candidate receiving the highest rating will receive $2,500 each year for up to four (4) years. The runner-up will receive $1,000 each year for up to four (4) years. Selection is based on careful review of the application, required documentation of academic performance and activities, and a personal interview by the Foundation Advisory Committee.

Current high school senior students who plan to attend an accredited college/university and who attend a school in the Counties of Otsego, Delaware and Chenango in the State of New York and who have an academic standing (GPA) of 95 or higher are eligible.
Award money may be used to pay tuition, college room and board, and other college fees. The award recipient must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in a college or university in the United States that holds accredited higher education status. The recipient must be enrolled in a course of study leading to one of the traditional baccalaureate degrees and remain in good academic and disciplinary standing.

Applications must be completed and submitted electronically. To download an application, log on to preferredmutual.com. All completed applications must be received no later than April 7, 2017. An incomplete application will automatically be disqualified. No exceptions will be allowed on the application deadline date. The top finalists will be contacted in May and asked to attend an interview on June 8, 2017. The announcement of winners will be made after the interviews.
