Good news for local property owners, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has capped property tax levy growth for school districts at 1.81 percent for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, down from a 2 percent cap in each of the two previous years, according to DiNapoli's office. With the decrease in the cap, comes a challenge to school districts to stay fiscally aware and spend less.

If any school district struggles to adhere to the 1.81 percent cap, there is a provision that allows school districts to override the cap with 60 percent voter approval of their budget.
