New Yorkers Eligible For Tax Credits

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A new national study estimates 779,000 New Yorkers are eligible for tax credits that would reduce premium payments for insurance coverage they can buy through the state's new insurance exchange.

The Kaiser Family Foundation analysis shows 17 million people, now uninsured or who buy insurance individually, will be eligible for credits when coverage starts in 2014. They include 2 million in Texas, 1.9 million in California and 1.6 million in Florida.

Under the federal Affordable Care Act, credits apply to those with incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level. New York, with about 2.7 million uninsured, projects enrolling 1.1 million through its state exchange.

The online marketplace lists insurers and coverage plans, allowing individuals and small businesses to shop and enroll.
