Police have charged a Broome County woman with murder in connection with the shooting of a man in the village of Sherburne.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, 36-year-old Kelly Gillett of Johnson City was arrested Monday.

Sheriff Ernest Cutting said investigators believe Gillett called 911 shortly after 11 a.m. Monday to report the shooting at 7 Gould Drive.

Two Department of Environmental Conservation officers who were nearby responded to the residence.

Cutting said 39-year-old Jon Ryan, who owns the home, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom.

The sheriff said Ryan had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head and the side of his body.

Cutting said Gillett was taken into custody without incident. He said the shotgun believed to have been used in the incident was found in its case on a couch in the living room of the home.

Gillett was arraigned late Monday afternoon and sent to Chenango County Jail without bail.
