Harry Styles has reportedly been cast as Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid.

According to The Disney Insider, the former One Direction singer has officially signed on to play the role opposite Halle Bailey's Ariel in Disney's upcoming live-action remake. As of right now, the news has not been confirmed by either Styles or the casting directors, but we're hoping the speculation is true.

After all, he'd make a great fit. Not only does Styles look like Prince Eric, but he's proven he's got the acting chops it takes for the role after starring in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. He also knows how to sing and though the character doesn't in the movie, maybe the new version will take advantage of Styles' voice.

Regardless, fans are definitely excited to see Styles play Prince Eric:

As for the rest of the cast, Bailey will be taking on the titular role, the villainous Ursula will reportedly be played by Melissa McCarthy and both Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are in talks to voice Ariel's best friend, Flounder, and Scuttle, respectively. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall and will feature music by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Disney's The Little Mermaid remake is expected to begin production early next year.
