On Friday afternoon, August 5, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded a serious personal injury motor vehicle accident on Bussey Hollow Road in the Town of Andes.

Investigation revealed that the driver, 60 year old Douglas R. Petoske, of Hancock, was traveling in a southeasterly direction on Bussey Hollow Road at an unsafe speed when he lost control of his 2002 Chevrolet pickup while negotiating a curve in the roadway causing the vehicle to overturn.

Responding members of the Andes Fire Department Volunteer Emergency Squad and Margaretville Memorial Hospital Emergency Squad treated Petoske at the scene before he was air lifted by a LifeNet of New York helicopter and transported to Albany Medical Center where he remained in the intensive care unit with a head injury late Friday afternoon.

A passenger in the vehicle, 23 year old Blaine A. Bolster, also of Hancock, sustained a minor injury and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Deputies report that the use of seatbelts by both occupants of the vehicle helped protect them from more serious injuries.  As of this time, no tickets have been issued in relation to this accident.
