The Otsego County Solid Waste Department is collecting soft and hard covers books to be recycled at the transfer stations in Cooperstown and Oneonta.  This is a new service in response to resident requests.  To recycle your books simply visit either transfer station and look for four book bins to deposit books into.  From there Discover Books will distribute books (depending on their condition) to public libraries and charitable organizations. Since the company’s inception, they have donated over 8.9 million books to non-profit organizations and they have diverted over 500 million pounds of paper from landfill demise.

Below are transfer station hours up until Memorial Day:

Oneonta:  Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon

Cooperstown: Monday, Wednesday, Friday,  7 a.m. to Noon and Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon
