El Paso parents are going to have to make some tough decisions about how school is going ot look this coming fall, and it looks like a lot of parents are going to be homeschooling. El Paso families got very well acquainted with distance learning after spring break turned into stay at home orders in the spring. Many parents say now that the initial shock of having to figure out how to accomplish homeschooling to finish out the spring semester and the thought of sending their kids back to school in the COVID-19 era, homeschooling is looking more and more attractive.

The El Paso Homeschool Association can help you figure out how to go from traditional school to homeschooling locally. The Texas Homeschool Coalition has a FAQ page that covers an amazing number of questions from how to withdraw your child from the public school they are attending, which has to be done per TEA policy, to whether your child support is affected if you homeschool your child.

As a parent who never had to face the situation so many parents are in right now, I can't imagine how difficult this decision is. The best thing to do is to come up with the pros and cons of homeschooling, figure out if it is something you have the time and patience for, and if your child will benefit from being homeschooled. It is a huge commitment but there are so many resources out there. The Texas Homeschool Coalition is listed on the TEA official website, but there are a number of other reputable websites that can help you navigate getting your child ready for homeschooling. The link to the TEA also offers other websites that you might want to check out before you make the homeschool move.
