When a company acquires the rights to a bunch of licensed characters, a crossover between them is almost inevitable -- and honestly, that's pretty exciting for a reader. I mean, who doesn't want to see the G.I. Joes throw down with the Ninja Turtles, or watch Doc Savage and the Shadow tear through pulpy crime lords, or see a time-spanning battle between RoboCop and the Terminator? It's something that we are pretty hard-wired as fans to be up for whenever it happens.

Today Dynamite announced one of those crossovers, but with a couple of twists. Firstly, the publisher is teaming up not two, but three of its licenses. Secondly, they're all women heroes, aligning for what writer Gail Simone describes as a "big, fun, noisy event book, full of action and fun and drama and sex and villainy," starring Vampirella, Red Sonja and Dejah Thoris.

Simone's presence as the lead writer (and so far the only announced creator) of the series comes as no surprise, considering that she was the writer of last year's successful Red Sonja relaunch. Still, this project seems interesting, just from a standpoint of wondering what premise could bring these characters together -- this isn't just a crossover between three characters, but between three distinct genres: The sword-and-sorcery of Red Sonja, the sci-fi fantasy of A Princess of Mars' Dejah Thoris, and... well, whatever it is when you have a vampire lady from the planet Drakulon, where water has the consistency of blood.

Still, it shouldn't be that much of a stretch to get them together, and while the rest of the creative team hasn't been announced yet, Simone promises in Dynamite's press release that she'll be working "with some of the most talented female writers in the industry."
