State Assemblyman Cliff Crouch is reminding homeowners, even those currently receiving the STAR property tax exemption, will need to re-register to be enrolled in the STAR program.

The State Comptroller’s office cited widespread fraud and abuse of the system as the reason for the re-registering program.

The deadline to re-register for the basic STAR exemption is Dec. 31.

According to Assemblyman Crouch, homeowners will be receiving a letter in the coming weeks that will include instructions on how to re-register. The new registration for the basic STAR exemption will only be required once, and homeowners will not have to re-register in the future.
