Troop C Barracks in Sidney Honors Captain Daniel Fox!
What a surprise!
Actually, I don't think I have ever been inside the NYS Trooper's barracks in Sidney before, but I had to go yesterday and what a surprise I found.
The lobby is filled with exhibits, photos, letters and memorabilia from the legendary Captain Dan Fox and his Spotted Horse Troop. He organized a troop of show ponies (Pintos) which performed their remarkable precision maneuvers from coast to coast. He was so legendary that he actually endorsed products back in the day ("All of my troopers drive Lincoln automobiles").
I was there for an hour examining all of this great stuff. Thanks to First Sargent Chad Buckley for the narration. 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the NYS Troopers, and if you have any old historical items you would like to share just contact Chad at Troop C. New stuff is coming in all the time (how about the original anvil they used to make horseshoes for the Spotted Horse ponies? Yes!!).
I don't know if you have ever been to see the exhibit but it is definitely open to the public and definitely worth a look. Take a look at my photos from my visit;
