Dr. Kristi Andersen, a prominent scholar in the field of citizenship and democracy, will be the keynote speaker at SUNY Oneonta’s fifth annual undergraduate political science conference on Friday.

ArtPlace, a collaboration of 13 leading national and regional foundations, has selected SUNY Oneonta’s Cooperstown Graduate Program as a finalist for its 2013 round of funding.

Award-wining poet David Mills will present “The Speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr.” on Monday at SUNY Oneonta. The reading is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center.

All but the third floor residents will return to SUNY Oneonta's Matteson Hall on Friday, just over a week since a fire displaced over 100 residents on Jan. 16. The university said in a statement that students will begin moving back in at 10 a.m. Displaced students have been staying at the Oneonta Holiday Inn as the college worked to clean Matteson Hall.

SUNY Oneonta issued two updates via its official Facebook page late Saturday night as it works to clean Matteson Hall after a fire heavily damaged the third floor and destroyed a suite Wednesday.

SUNY Oneonta displaced students staying at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta will have the option to take an Oneonta Public Transport bus from the hotel to the campus and back free of charge. The bus schedule is as follows:

SUNY Oneonta will pay for the students displaced by Wednesday's dormitory fire to stay at the Oneonta Holiday Inn until long-term housing options become available. Oneonta Public Transport has agreed to provide transportation to and from the hotel to students free of charge.

Investigators from the City of Oneonta Fire Department deemed that the fire that caused damage to Matteson Hall on the SUNY Oneonta campus started as the result of a malfunction and the improper use of an electric plug strip in a suite bedroom on the third floor.

Kiplinger, a personal finance magazine, has named SUNY Oneonta to its list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for the seventh consecutive year. The 2013 rankings, released earlier this week, recognize four-year schools that deliver academic quality and affordability.
