The investigation into the fire that damaged the third floor of SUNY Oneonta's Matteson Hall has concluded, according to a post on the official SUNY Oneonta Facebook page.

SUNY Oneonta has received the final official report on the investigation of the Jan. 16 fire at Matteson Hall on the college's campus. The New York State Division of Homeland Security Office of Fire Prevention and Control concluded that the fire was accidental and that its cause was determined to be consistent with the overheating or malfunctioning of a power strip in relation to a pole lamp.

The college has created a Matteson Fire Property Loss Relief Fund to assist students whose property was lost as a direct result of the fire. The fund was established to lessen the financial hardships caused by the accident. Matteson students and their families have been invited to submit claims and related documentation through May 10. http://www.oneonta.edu/matteson/smallclaims.asp
