It’s the first day of school for Oneonta and a number of other area districts and police are reminding drivers to exercise extra caution around schools and stopped school buses. State law requires traffic from either direction – even in front of the school and in school parking lots – to stop when the bus’s red lights are flashing. You must stop for a school bus even if it is on the opposite side of a divided highway. Fines start at $250.
