Seward Happy with Legislative Session

The state legislature remained busy to close this year's session and passing important legislation.

State Senator James Seward said he was happy that actions taken during the 2013 legislative session reflect the needs and concerns of the people of our area.

It began with the third on-time budget, with no new taxes, emphasis on job creation, additional monies for schools, and local highway departments.

"Jobs and economic development continue to be a concern and a need for our area," Seward said. "The Start Up New York program is another way that we can help encourage new jobs and economic development. Putting our college campus and economic together I believe is a winning combination."

Seward added that he was very pleased that funding was restored to local agencies that serve developmental disabilities, and that casino legislation will be on the November ballot. Seward said legislation passed this year shows the state is moving in the right direction.
