Thousands gathered at the state capitol in Albany on Thursday to protest passage of NY SAFE Act and to support second amendment rights in New York State.

Among the gathering were State Assemblyman Cliff Crouch, Assemblyman Gary Finch and Senator James Seward.

In his remarks Seward said the state has to recognize the reality of gun violence.

"It's the criminal element, it's the dangerously mentally ill. It's not you, the responsible, law-abiding gun owners of New York State," Seward said. "You are not the problem, and we need to respect that and to stand up for your second amendment rights and your rights as Americans."

Seward says passing a bill that diminishes second amendment rights and makes criminals out of law-abiding gun owners fails to address the real causes of gun violence.
