Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref-Oneonta) was overwhelmingly re-elected today to a 17th term as state senator.

Senator Seward addressed an excited crowd at campaign HQ in Oneonta saying, “I am thrilled and humbled with the victory and look forward to continuing the strong partnerships I have developed with the people of the 51st Senate District, ensuring our needs, our views, and our values are well represented in Albany.”

After thanking his family and supporters, Seward cited several recent victories in Albany along with his future goals.

“I have never lost sight of the reason I first ran for senator – to serve the public, and help improve the lives of the people who call this area home. That is a responsibility I take extremely seriously and one I will continue to uphold.

“In just a few short weeks the legislature will be back in session and there are significant issues on the horizon. Too many people are leaving our state and we need to turn that trend around by creating new opportunities for growth and success while making New York more affordable.

“My focus will be on the concerns I hear every day - property tax relief, economic development, aid for our neediest schools, resources for our local roads and bridges, broadband access, quality healthcare, and the crushing heroin epidemic. There have been wins, but there is work ahead and I am energized and prepared to roll up my sleeves and continue working for the people of the 51st senate district,” Seward concluded.

The 51st senate district is made up of all or parts of Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Otsego, Schoharie, Tompkins and Ulster counties.
