One of the items in Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address last week was his plan to create the College on Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security which would be the first in the nation.

Former New York city police commissioner Ray Kelly has been named as special advisor to the governor. Emergency response officials say they are all for more education on preparedness and welcome the idea of being ready for any type of disaster. The college would not only train emergency responders, it would also help train citizens to prepare for an emergency and to assist first responders.

A location for the school has not yet been announced.
