I was reading a passage out of an old Oneonta history book ("A Sketch of the History of Oneonta" by Dudley M. Campbell; 1883) and came across this interesting paragraph:

"At the time of its first settlement, Oneonta was located in the old county of Tryon.  In 1784 the name of the county was changed from Tryon to Montgomery.  Oneonta was then located within the Town of Suffrage."

Isn't it interesting that way back at the dawning of our country, Oneonta found itself in a town declaring the right to vote!   "Suffrage"
