Oneonta State Trooper Turns Midwife, Helps Deliver Baby

On March 18, 2014, Trooper Timothy West, Jr., from State Police Oneonta responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a childbirth in progress in a vehicle in Franklin, Delaware County.

Trooper West found the vehicle on the shoulder of State Highway 28 in North Franklin, and observed a woman who was obviously in labor. He assisted as the child was born safely in her vehicle. Both the mother and newborn appeared to be in good health. Trooper West wrapped the child in a blanket and turned the care of both parties over to the Franklin and CMT EMS crews who arrived.

The mother and child were transported to AO Fox Hospital by ambulance and are reported to be fine.
