For the 4th year, the Oneonta Family YMCA  will be collaborating with the City of Oneonta for the Summer Parks & Recreation programs.  Registration for the afternoon program at Wilber park is MARCH 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the YMCA. This summer the Oneonta Family YMCA will be adding an additional hour to its afternoon program at Wilber Park from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The YMCA Summer Adventure @ Wilber Park is a 6 week afternoon swim and hike program starting July 3 and ending August 13 and will meet Monday through Friday from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Participants, entering first and ending 4th grade, will meet at the upper pavilion in Wilber Park to do nature-based activities and finish the afternoon off swimming at the outdoor pool in Wilber Park. (In case of inclement weather, this program will take place at the Y.)

The Oneonta Family YMCA is proud to announce a new collaboration with the Bugbee Children’s Center who will be offering a morning program from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants enrolled in the Bugbee program can also register for the YMCA Summer Adventure @ Wilber Park program. The YMCA will pick up all registered Wilber Park children who are at Bugbee in the morning and will supervise and hike the participants to Wilber Park. All other participants who are not enrolled in the a.m. program at Bugbee will meet at the upper pavilion at Wilber Park, which begins at 12:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the YMCA will once again offer the program at its facility at 20 Ford Avenue.

New this year, registration for both the Bugbee a.m. program and the YMCA Summer Adventure @ Wilber Park will take place in the YMCA gym on Wednesday, March 15 from 5-7 p.m. This registration is for both city and non-residents. 60 spots have been reserved for city residents and the cost has been subsidized for city residents with a registration fee of $10/week. After 60 spots have been filled, the cost, regardless of residency, will be $85/week ($65/week for July 3-7). There will be a $5 discount for additional children within a family. The Bugbee Children’s Center will also be on sight on March 15 to register children in their morning program. The cost for the 7:30-12:30 p.m. program at Bugbee will be $135/week ($108/week for July 3-7).

Oneonta Family YMCA announces new City contract for Parks & Recreation programs. registration date of March 15 allows parents to plan ahead and have the option of making installment payments. All fees for both YMCA and Bugbee programs must be paid by the first day of enrollment. Registration for swimming lessons and pool pass pickup will again take place in May and those dates will be announced in April. Pool passes will be available for pickup either at the Y or at the Wilber pool once it has opened for the season. In its fourth year of contract for services the City has provided for individuals who are residents to continue to receive City subsidized programming, swimming lessons, and entrance into the pool. For those who reside outside the city limits, fees will be charged for registration, programs and lessons. Opening day for Briggs pool in Wilber Park will be June 24. Anyone living outside of the City of Oneonta will be required to pay admission into the swimming pool. The non-resident cost for admission is $1/child, $3/adult, $8/family or another option is to purchase a seasonal non-resident pass ($25/child, $50/adult, $75/family). Those residing within the City limits will continue to enter for free but must pick up a pool pass at the YMCA. City passes will be available beginning in May. Non-residents may also purchase seasonal passes at this time too. Passes can be picked up at the pool beginning June 24. City residents should bring a photo ID with proof of residency such as a utility bill, driver’s license, voter’s registration card or copy of residential rental lease.

Swimming lessons will take place from July 3 through July 28. This 4 week Monday through Thursday program is $10 for City residents and $60 for non-residents. Fridays will be used as a make-up day due to the 4th of July holiday and inclement weather. The Oneonta Waves Swim Team will meet July 5 through August 11 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Swimmers must be able to achieve YMCA Minnow level or be able to dive from the deck, swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke without stopping. A meet schedule will be available in June. July 31-August 3 will be “Safety Around Water” week in memory of YMCA employee, Steve Lyden. These 4 consecutive days of swimming and water safety skills are available for all youth levels and are absolutely FREE to all swimmers. Registration will take place in July at the Oneonta YMCA.
