A fire broke out in the city of Oneonta yesterday, a little after 1 p.m at 8 forest avenue. When firefighters arrived on the scene, there was a significant amount of fire on the back porch. Fire Department Captain Brad Smith says a transitional attack on the rear of the house helped contain the fire but still there was a lot of smoke damage done to this property. Captain Smith says a woman was home at the time of the fire and was transported to a local hospital while there were two dogs at the house, one was okay but the other dog ran back into the house and died of smoke inhalation. The city of Oneonta Fire Department will continue to investigate this fire today, as they were on the scene for about three hours yesterday. Mutual aid was provided by West Oneonta and Worcester with Otego on standby.
