The City of Oneonta will officially open the newly renovated Briggs Pool bathhouse in Wilber Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 27th at 12:45pm.  The public is invited to attend.

The bathhouse was built in 1938 as a Works Progress Administration project and opened in 1939.  Needless to say, years of wear and tear took their toll and it was in great need of renovations.  The City requested state funds in order to renovate and replace bathrooms, install new handicap accessible/family bathrooms, drinking fountains, replace deteriorating changing stalls, along with shower facilities and incorporate hot water for the first time ever.  The stonework that forms the main structure of the building will also be repaired along with some interior painting and roof replacement.

Between 20,000 and 25,000 people visit the Briggs Pool each year, with a 50 year history of children taking swimming lessons there.  For more information about this pool renovation project, call the Oneonta City Clerk at (607) 432-6450.
