A Saturday night crash in Broome County left one person dead and another seriously injured.

The accident occurred around 5:20 pm Saturday on Route 26 in the Town of Maine when the driver of a 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Robert Norris of Endicott, crashed into a utility pole. Both Norris and his passenger, Penny Barton of Maine, were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by responding firefighters. Norris was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and Barton was admitted with serious injuries.

The investigation into the accident is continuing, with speed and alcohol being considered as factors.
