One item of business remaining on the agenda for New York lawmakers could make brunch-goers happy.

Before the Legislature adjourns later this month it's expected to weigh a proposal that would allow restaurants to serve alcohol before noon on Sundays. The idea comes from Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who says the state needs to modernize several alcohol laws that in many cases date back to prohibition. Other possible changes include new rules for where liquor stores can operate, and a simpler licensing system for bars and restaurants to reduce red tape.
