Kyle Jay Vanderwerker, 24, who was the former manager of the Amber Life Inn motel in Colliersville, was arrested for possessing and cashing a $600 forged Amber Life Inn business check that was dated Jan. 3, 2012.

Vanderwerker cashed the forged check in the city of Oneonta on June 26. The owner of the motel had contacted the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office back in September to report another crime, which resulted in the arrest of Grace Forgit on embezzlement charges.

During the audit of his books it was discovered that checks had allegedly been stolen and one was later cashed at a local bank. Vanderwerker was interviewed by police in the fall.

A warrant of arrest was obtained for Vanderwerker from the Oneonta City Court. He surrendered himself to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon and was held until his arraignment on Friday morning.

Oneonta City Court Judge Lucy Bernier arraigned Vanderwerker and set bail at $250. Vanderwerker is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument a 2nd degree felony and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He is scheduled to return to court Monday.

If convicted Vanderwerker faces up to seven years in prison.
