Heavy rain is expected across the region Thursday and Friday, which may result in widespread flooding of streams, creeks and low-lying areas.

Rivers will be monitored closely, but as of Wednesday morning, officials at the National Weather Service in Binghamton are unable to determine if there will be minor flooding of mainstem rivers.

Regions likely to be most affected are the southern and eastern portions of the state, especially the southern tier and capital region.

A flood watch is in effect for Thursday and Friday for much of the southern tier and central New York, including Otsego, Delaware and Chenango counties.
