Some tense moments Thursday in Walton as a gas leak resulted in the evacuation of the Walton Wastewater Treatment Plant along with a head-start program for young children that is near the State Street plant.

Authorities say a delivery vehicle emptied its contents into the wrong tank at the plant causing a chemical reaction producing the potentially harmful gases. Walton schools cancelled all afternoon activities Thursday but officials say they expect things to be back to normal on Friday. No injuries have been reported and authorities say they do not suspect any water contamination
