The United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties in partnership with Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties is assisting income eligible individuals or married couples with free tax preparation through a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

If you are a resident of Delaware, Chenango, Otsego or Schoharie County and earn less than $51,000 this tax year, you may qualify to have your tax preparation done free of charge. Trained community volunteers can help you with special credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, Credit for the Elderly and education credits for which you may qualify. Electronic Filing assures a quick return on your claim..

Below, Cheri Albrecht, The United Way's Interim Executive Director and Jeff Weinell of SUNY Oneonta talk about the free tax preparation program.

For more information about the VITA tax program, call the United Way at (607) 432-8006 or Catholic Charities at (607) 431-9303.
