New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he is working to repeal the state’s death penalty. The announcement came after Pope Francis declared the death penalty inadmissible and said he will work to have it abolished world wide. Cuomo said his legislation advancement was made in memory of his father Mario Cuomo who vetoed death penalty reinstatement 12 times. Governor George Pataki reinstated the death penalty in 1995 but a court halted it in 2004.
