The Oneonta Farmers’ Market will hold its annual Children’s Day event this Saturday, August 9th, with live music, free tastings, vegetable stamping art projects, a scavenger hunt, free bookmarks and balloons and a free drawing to win a Green Toad Book Store gift certificate.

Live music is from 10 am – 12 noon with Skip West, who will entertain the crowd with songs to dance and sing along with.  Drawing on years of experience as a teacher, entertainer, composer and musician, Skip brings contemporary and traditional music styles to his kid-friendly songs, making for a fun-filled morning of great music and good times.

There will be free helium balloons while they last and free coloring books, plus samples of kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare farmers’ market foods.  Come by the Green Toad Bookstore table to get a free book mark, learn more about their delightful child-friendly literary offerings and enter a free drawing to win a $25 Green Toad Bookstore gift certificate!

The Building Healthy Families organization will be guests at the market this week, offering vegetable stamping art projects and a scavenger hunt to help families learn how to explore the market using all five senses.  Building Healthy Families is a home visiting program that supports new and expectant moms and dads in Otsego County.

This week vendors will offer everything from sweet corn, tomatoes, egg plant, broccoli, mixed lettuce, peaches, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, to farm-fresh eggs, poultry, meats, honey, maple syrup, baked goods and prepared foods. It is sunflower season and ARK floral will have stunning cut flower bouquets featuring beautiful sunflowers and sweet-scented star-gazer lilies.  The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is in effect and selected produce vendors will accept Women with Infants and Children coupons and Senior Coupons throughout the season.  The Oneonta Farmers' Market is held every Saturday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at Oneonta’s Main Street Plaza under the white canopies right in front of the Clarion Hotel.  Rain or shine!
