Ubisoft's newest internal, entrepreneurial initiative-spawned game, Child of Light, has managed to turn a profit for the company.

Patrick Plourde, Far Cry 3's creative director started developing Child of Light about two years ago, and today GamesIndustry reports that it has officially turned a profit for the company. "It's not as profitable as Assassin's Creed is profitable," Plourde explains, "but it's profitable enough that we would have been able to fund a sequel." He also goes on to add, "Or if it had been my company, I would be driving a Ferrari and doing donuts."

Plourde ended up with the project for Child of Light after agreeing to make Far Cry 3. "I didn't want to make Far Cry 3," Plourde admits, "but they said, 'Pat, if you do that and help build that brand, we're going to give you a free shot at the game you want.'" So he did and ended up creating a game that players didn't just play and forget about. Instead, the game not only proved itself financially and critically, but also with its fanbase. There have been fans that have emailed Plourde to recount how the game has helped them cope with their depression or suicidal thoughts. "That's something that I hadn't been able to achieve working on blockbuster AAA games," Plourde stated, "Now I'm really, really proud of being able to help people in their life through our medium, which is gaming. That makes the whole thing for me worth something."

For a game that only had about 40 people working on it during peak times and a budget of only "a couple of million" dollars, that's pretty incredible. To reward Child of Light team's success, "the Child of Light developers have been cemented as a core team at its Montreal studio". If you would like to share in the success of this game, you can play it now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U or PC.
