On Friday evening at about 7 pm the Norwich City Police received a 911 call in connection with a missing persons case.

The mother of a 16-year-old male reported that she was in cell phone contact with her son who had become lost in a wooded area west of Norwich. The missing boy had gone hiking at about 3 pm.

The 911 Center was able to triangulate the cell phone signal from the boy before the cell phone battery went dead. The Norwich Fire Department provided an all wheel vehicle to aid in the search.

At about 9:05 pm the boy was found in a heavily wooded area about a half mile west of Randall Avenue. After being checked at a waiting ambulance, the boy was found to have no injuries.

Assisting in the search were the Chenango County Bureau of Fire and the Chenango County Search and Rescue Team.
