It seems a bit foolish for Marvel to heap easy cash into a giant dumpster and set it on fire by continually teasing a Black Widow solo movie we’ll never get. They have Scarlett Johansson, one of the most bankable actresses on the planet, playing one of the coolest, most interesting Avengers (and even more badass than the boys since she has zero superpowers), and yet, while we’re practically begging the studio to take our money for this, they’re just like, “Nah, we’re good.” We may never get that Black Widow movie, but one fan has put together a pretty sweet title sequence for one, which isn’t exactly satisfying our craving — it just makes us want a Black Widow movie even more.

This fictional title sequence has a very awesome James Bond vibe to it, which is fitting given Natasha Romanoff’s spy background. Utilizing only black, red and white graphics, the sequence evokes her Russian heritage and displays a certain level of creative simplicity in keeping with some of the end credits sequences for Marvel films. It’s not as polished as those, obviously, but you get the idea of what it could be.

Using Portishead’s “Sour Times” is also a brilliant choice — not only is it an excellent song, but, like the design of this sequence, it also feels like something out of James Bond. Then there’s the ballerina graphics, which reference Natasha’s past in the Black Widow program — the transition between those and the American flag is particularly a nice touch.

Further piquing our interest: the cast for this fictional film includes Rosamund Pike. It’s fair to assume that she could play the villain of the piece, maybe Baroness (an older version of whom appeared recently on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2) or Madame Hydra, aka Viper. Of course, it’s not clear whether Viper could appear in a Marvel Studios film, given that she did appear in The Wolverine, which did reveal her real name to be Andrea von Strucker, providing a tenuous connection between Fox and the MCU. Then again, Quicksilver has appeared in both Fox and Marvel films now, so the Von Struckers could be a shared thing.

Also, I am clearly taking this fan-made title sequence for a Black Widow movie very seriously. It’s got a Portishead song! The graphics are cool (ballerinas!)! Rosamund Pike in a Marvel movie with Scarlett Johansson! Marvel, please take our money. We shouldn’t have to beg like this. It’s very uncouth.
