By this point, you've probably noticed that we here at ComicsAlliance are already huge fans of the new Batgirl of Burnside costume making its debut next month in Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr's Batgirl #35, but there are some out there who don't like it. For a few readers, the stylish leather jacket and snapped cape just seems so much less practical and realistic than the heavily seamed skintight spandex, leading them to express genuine concern about Batgirl's effectiveness as a crime fighter.

And that's just the start of the problems! Heavy shoes like Doc Martens can limit her vertical leap, as opposed to the stiletto heels which as all superhero fans know provide for a taller and more intimidating stature. Attaching her cape with snaps might seem like a good idea, but that means that Batgirl will likely be losing it all the time, leaving it behind and having to come back to look for it, wasting time that could be spent fighting the actual real imaginary crimes of Gotham's Burnside neighborhood! The longer you look at it, the more problems there are, which is why there are so many legitimate concerns about this costume design.

Fortunately for those compassionate souls, Cameron Stewart has made a concession in the form of a variant cover for December's Batgirl #37, featuring a new variant of Batgirl's costume that is more practical. Which is to say, it is covered in golden sequins and rhinestones.
