A 12 year old from Chenango County won’t be bringing back the trophy from the 90th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee but she sure made her family and community proud. Melodie Loya of Bainbridge did make it to the round of 40 finalists but misspelled the word “subauditur”. In addition to the trophy the bee winner gets over $40,000 in cash and prizes. New this year is a tiebreaker test which organizers say should help determine a sole winner.
