I was walking along one of the College Camp trails behind SUNY Oneonta this week and spotted a peculiar object that appeared completely out of place among the trees.

It's rusted, broken, and seems to me to be the top half of an old, metal milk jug. But why is it in the woods? Where did it come from? What is that logo? ODC?

The trails themselves are quite nice. I walked the Red Trail about halfway up to the camp, until it met with the Orange Trail.

It was on the Orange Trail that I found the object in the photo above. It's a pretty massive top to something, and easily covers the tree stump on which is rests.

After doing some internet research, I think it's the top to a milk can, but were they that big? I couldn't find anything matching the initials ODC that would indicate a farm or dairy supplier.

One friend that it might be a spittoon, but I think it's too big for that. What do you think it is?

College Camp is open during daylight hours all year. Check it out. You can start on the Red Trail by the baseball fields and make your way all the way up to the lodge and observatory -- if you have strong legs. The Red Trail is about two miles all uphill to the campground.

The camp itself is a wonderful gem of the area. I've lived in Oneonta just about one year and have lived in this area most of my life and never knew about it until a couple weeks ago. Check out the informational video below.
